The Bhavanisagar Dam (Lower Bhavani Dam) is located in Bhavani River just below the confluence of River Moyar and River Bhavani. Bhavani River originates from the Western Ghats and flows towards eastern side. Total length of Bhavani River is 217kms. The river continues east for over 160 kilometres through Erode District, traversing Kodiveri anicut, near Gobichettipalayam and confluences with Cauvery in Erode District.
By this reservoir Erode, Karur and Tiruppur Districts are benefitted. Sathyamangalam, Gobichettipalayam, Andiyur, Bhavani, Perundurai, Kangeyam and Erode taluks are benefitted by this reservoir.
The first stone for the construction of Bhavanisagar reservoir was laid by the then Hon’ble Chief Minister Thiru.P.S.Kumarasamy Raja on 01.10.1949.
