The Kuthiraiyar Dam was constructed across Kuthiraiyar river which originates from Western Ghats in Palani hills and confluences with Amaravathi river near Kolumam Village. Amaravathi is a major tributary of Cauvery River.
By this reservoir Dindigul and Coimbatore Districts are benefitted. Palani and Udumalpet taluks are benefitted by this reservoir.
The Foundation stone for the construction of Kuthiraiyar reservoir was laid on 24.01.1982 and completed in the year 1989. The reservoir was opened for irrigation by the then Hon’ble Minister for Public Works Department Thiru. Durai Murugan on 15.12.1989.
