About Pambar Dam

Pambar Dam was constructed pambar river near Marampatty village in Uthangarai Taluk of Krishnagiri District. The pambar river is originates from Alangayam hills in Vellore District and runs at about 44km distance and it confluences in to the Pennaiyar river near pavakkal village.The Pambar River is one of the Tributaries of Pennaiyar river. The pambar river such has two tributaries such as Mathur river and Bargur river Respectully. This dam is constructed across pambar river at a distance of 8km from the confluence point of pambar river and Pennaiyar river. The catchment Area of this reservoir is 1736Sq.km.

This dam benefits Dharmapuri District. Uthangarai and Harur taluks are benefited by this dam.

The dam works were commenced during 1977 and completed in the year 1983. The dam was inaugurated and first water released by the then Hon’ble Minister for Irrigation and Public Works Thiru.Y.S.M.Yusuff on 26.12.1983.
