About Shenbagathoppu Dam

Shenbagathope dam was constructed across Kamandalar near Shenbagathope village in Polur Taluk of Vellore District. The Kamandalar originates in Pattaraikadu Reserve forest on the Eastern slope of Jawadhu hills range. Naganadhi Joins Kamandalar and flows as Kamandalanaganadhi and joins the Cheyyar river. The Cheyyar river joins with Palar river which confluences with Bay of Bengal near Sadras in Kanchipuram District.

As per the scope of this project the required quantum of water will be released from the dam through the river sluice so that the water can reach the Four anicuts in the downstream namely 1. Aliyabad Anicut 2. Vellore Anicut 3. Kamakkur Anicut and 4. S.V.Nagar Anicut. Water for irrigation is let out through these anicuts. By this scheme 46 tanks in 30 villages are benefited. The total command area is 6693.34 Acres.

This dam benefits Thiruvannamalai District. Cheyyar, Arcot, Arani and Polur Taluk is benefited by this dam.

The dam works were commenced on 27.11.2001 and completed on 31.10.2006.
