The Mambazhathuraiyar Reservoir was constructed across Mambazhathuraiyar river near Anaikidangu in Villukuri village of kalkulam Taluk in Kanyakumari District. Mambazhathuraiyar originates on the south eastern slope of Maruthatoor malai. The Mambazhathuraiyar river is a tributary of Valliyar river which falls into the Arabian sea near kadiyapattanam in Kanyakumari District.
By this reservoir Kanyakumari District is benefitted. Kalkulam taluk is benefitted by this reservoir.
The construction of the dam was commenced during 2007 and the Reservoir was inaugurated by the then Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru.M.K.Stallin on 03.2011. The first water for irrigation was opened for irrigation by the then Hon’ble Minister for Forest Thiru.K.T.Pachaimal on 31.08.2012.
