The Shanmuganadhi Reservoir was constructed across the varattar or Shanmuganadhi in Rayappanpatti village of Uthamapalayam Taluk of Theni District. Shanmuganadhi is a tributary of Suruliyar which is a tributary of Vaigai River.
By this reservoir Theni District is benefitted. Uthamapalayam taluk is benefitted by this reservoir.
The construction of the dam was commenced during 1987 and completed in the year 2004 and inaugurated by the then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Selvi.J.Jayalalithaa. The first water release was on 08.12.2004.
