The office of the Chief Engineer, WRO, PWD, Pollachi Region was formed on 05.10.1995, with its Head Quarters at Pollachi and subsequently the Head Quarters has been shifted to Coimbatore with effect from 18.05.2000. The hydraulic boundaries of Coimbatore Region includes the Parambikulam Aliyar Basin, Bhavani sub basin, Noyyal sub basin and Amaravathy sub basin, which spread over in 6 districts (i.e) Niligiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur, part of Karur and part of Dindigul.
There are 4 Circles and 10 Divisions, 40 Sub-divisions and 141 sections under this Region to operate, maintain and monitor the Irrigation systems besides Planning, Development, Conservation and Management of Territorial Water Resources.
The Irrigation Network consists of 24 Dams, 81 System Tanks and 102 Non System tanks to cater to the irrigation requirements of the Agricultural command area under the respective basins.
