Adavinainarkoil Reservoir was constructed across the river Hanumanadhi, which originates from the Western Ghats in Mekkarai village of Shenkottai taluk in Tirunelveli district. This river is a tributary of Chittar which in turn a tributary of Thamirabarani.
By this reservoir Tirunelveli District is benefitted. Sencottai and Tenkasi taluks are benefitted by this reservoir.
The construction of the reservoir was commenced on 25.01.1996 and completed on 13.03.2003. The reservoir was opened by the then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Selvi.J.Jayalalithaa. The first water release for irrigation was during July 2004.
