Chinnar Dam was constructed across Chinnar river near Panchapalli village in Palacode Taluk of Dharmapuri District. The River Chinnar take its originates from Thali Reserve Forest and finally joins with River Cauvery at Hogenakkal. The Catchment of the reservoir has mostly in hilly region and is influenced by both monsoon. Total catchment area for the site is 613.82 sq.km of free catchment. As the catchment is completely in hilly region it is having good yield. The rainfall station is available at Dam site. Considering 36 years of rainfall of rainfall station the dependable yield for 70 % success is found.
This reservoir benefits Dharmapuri District. Hosur and Dharmapuri taluks are benefited by this reservoir.
The main canal which takes off on the Right flank of the dam with the head discharge of 100 c/s to irrigate 4500 acres, runs 11.50 Km in Dharmapuri District
The Dam works were commenced on 10.06.1971 and completed on 31.08.1976.
