About Gomukhi Dam

Gomukhinadhi dam was constructed across Gomukhi river at the foot of Kalrayan Hills near Kallakurichi Village in Villupuram District which is a tributary of Manimukthanadhi river. Manimukthanadhi River is one of the Major tributaries of Vellar which comprises of Mani, Muktha, Gomukhi and Mayura rivers, originating from the Northern part of the Eastern Slopes of Kalrayan Hills which is a hill range of Eastern Ghats. The catchment area is mostly on the hills and there are no irrigation works with in the area. There is no inception by tanks.

This dam benefits South Arcot District. Kallakurichi Taluk is benefited by this reservoir.

The construction of dam was started in the year 1963 and completed in the year 1965. The dam was inaugurated by the then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru.M.Bakthavatchalam on 22.11.1965. The first release of water was on 11.09.1966.
