The Manjalar Reservoir was constructed across Manjalar river near Devadhanapatti village of Periyakulam Taluk in Theni District. Majalar River gets water from Thalaiyar, Moolaiyar, Iruttar and Varattar which are originated from Kodaikanal Hills. Manjalar is a tributary of Vaigai River.
By this reservoir Theni District is benefitted. Periyakulam taluk is benefitted by this reservoir.
The construction of the dam was commenced during 1962 and completed by 1968. The first water release was done by the then Hon’ble Chief Minister Thiru.M.Bakthavachalam on 11.01.1967.
