Mirugandanadhi dam was constructed across Mirugandanadhi and Idiyar near Melsolankuppam village in Polur Taluk of Vellore District. Mirugandanadhi river originates from the Moolakadu reserve forest of Jawadhu hills range. A tributary known as Idiyar joins with this river. Mirugandanadhi river is a tributary of Cheyyar river which is a tributary of Palar and its infall into Palar River which confluences with Bay of Bengal near Sadras in Kanchipuram District.
This dam benefits Thiruvannamalai District. Polur and Kalathapakkam Taluks are benefited by this dam.
The dam works were commenced on 28.01.2004 and completed on 31.03.2006. The reservoir was inaugurated by the then Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru.M.K.Stallin on 10.02.2010. The first release of water was on 10.02.2010.
