The Noyyal Athupalayam Dam is constructed near Athupalayam village of Aravakkurichi Taluk of Karur District. This reservoir is fed by feeder canal of length 10km from Muthur barrage across Noyyal River which is a tributary of the Cauvery. Noyyal river originates in the Velliangiri hills in the western part of Tamil Nadu and confluences with Cauvery River. Total length of Noyyal river is 179 kms.
By this reservoir Karur District is benefitted. Karur and Aravakurichi taluks are benefitted by this reservoir.
The Foundation stone for the construction of this reservoir was laid by the then Hon’ble Minister for Public Works Thiru.K.Raja Mohammed on 27.12.1981 and construction was completed in the year 1992. The reservoir was first opened for irrigation by the then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Selvi.J.Jayalalithaa on 22.01.1992.
