About Parappalar Dam

The Parappalar Dam is constructed across Parappalar river in Vadakadu village in Dindigul District. The Parappalar river originates from Pachaimalai, Aralipparai and Pachallur hills in Palani range and confluences with Nanganjiar.

By this reservoir Dindigul and Karur Districts are benefitted. Oddanchathram and Aravakurichi taluks are benefitted by this reservoir.

The Foundation stone for the construction of the Parappalar Dam was laid by the then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru.M.Karunanidhi on 14.02.1972. The construction was completed in the year 1975. The reservoir was first opened for irrigation by the then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru.M.Karunanidhi on 30.08.1975.
