About Perunchani Dam

Perunchani dam is built across the Paralayar River, a tributary of the Thamirabarani River, also known locally as the Kuzhithuraiar. Thamirabarani River rises in the Western Ghats and flows through a distance of 56 km before confluencing into the Arabian Sea.

By this reservoir Kanyakumari District is benefitted. Thovala, Agastheeswaram, Kalkulam and Vilavankode taluks are benefitted by this reservoir.

The construction of dam was started by 1948 and completed on 1953. The reservoir was first operated on 02.09.1953.
