The Pilavukkal-Periyar Reservoir was constructed across Periyar river. The Pilavukkal Kovilar and Pilavukkal Periyar reservoirs empty their surplus course in Watrap tank and the surplus course of this tank flows as Arjunanadhi which is a major tributary of Vaippar.
By this reservoir Virudhunagar District is benefitted. Srivilliputhur taluk is benefitted by this reservoir.
The construction of the dam was commenced during 1971 and completed by 1976. The first water release was on 24.09.1975.
