Ponnaniar Reservoir is constructed across Ponnaniar River in Mugavanur Village of Manapparai Taluk . Ponnaniar is originated from kadavur hills and traverses for a distance of 32 K.m and joins with River Ariyar which finally in falls into River Cauvery.
This reservoir benefits Trichy District. Manapparai taluk is benefitted by this reservoir.
The construction of dam was started in the year 1972 and completed in the year 1974.
