The Sothuparai Reservoir was constructed across the Varahanadhi River near Periyakulam in Theni district. Varahanadhi river originates from Kodaikanal Hills and it confluences with Vaigai near Gullapuram.
By this reservoir Theni District is benefitted. Periyakulam taluk is benefitted by this reservoir.
The construction of the dam was commenced in the year 1982 and completed in the year 2001. The first release of water was on 21.11.2001.
