The Thoppaiyar Dam is constructed across Thoppaiyar river which is also called as Veppadiyar originating from Servarayan Hills in Dharmapuri District. After traversing 24kms, Nagavathy river falls in the Stanely Reservoir constructed across Cauvery River.
The dam serves for a total ayacut of 5330 Acres of which 3280 Acres in Salem district and2050 acres in Dharmapuri District.
This dam benefits Dharmapuri and Salem Districts. Omalur, Mettur and Dharmapuri taluks are benefitted by this reservoir.
The Thoppaiyar dam works were commenced on 22.12.1980 and completed on 31.03.1987. The dam was inaugurated by the then Hon’ble Chief Minister Thiru.M.G.Ramachandran.
