The Vaniyar Dam is constructed across Vaniyar river near Pappireddipatti village at the foot of Servarayan Hills. Vaniyar is one of the major tributaries of Pennaiyar River. The Vaniar Dam is located estiern side of YERCAD HILLS. The Location of Vaniar Dam is looking with natural sence with the back ground of Mountains and forests.
The Vaniar dam irrigates a total ayacut of 10402 acres of land in which 8550 acres of new ayacut through left and right side canals be sides stabilizing the existing old ayacut of 1967 acres in Pappireddipatti Taluk.
This dam benefits Dharmapuri District. Harur Taluk is benefited by this dam.
The Vaniyar dam works were commenced on 05.10.1981 and completed during 1986. The reservoir was inaugurated and first water released by the then Hon’ble Minister for Irrigation and Public Works Thiru.Y.S.M.Yusuff.
