Vidur dam was constructed across Varahanadhi after the confluence of Thondiyar river in Tindivanam Taluk of Villupuram district. The ayacut area is 3200 Acres of which 1000 Acres is in Pondicherry State.
There are two anicuts viz Suthukkeni and Pilliyarkuppam below the reservoir site are Pondicherry state. Eight other anicuts namely Sengampoondi, Sathiyamangalam, Thenpalai, Gudapttu, Modaiyur, Rettanai, Peranai and Nedimozhiyanur are in Tamil Nadu state above the reservoir site.
This dam benefits Villupuram and Pondy Districts. Vannur and Tindivanam Taluks are benefited by this dam.
The construction of dam was commenced in the year 1958 and completed in the year 1959.
