Gatana Reservoir was constructed across the Gatana River at the foot of Western Ghats in Sivasailam and Dharmapuram madam village of Ambasamudram Taluk in Tirunelveli District. Gatananadhi and Ramanathi are joining and run as Gatananadhi and is a tributary of Thamiraparani. Total length of Gadana river is 33.15Kms.
By this reservoir Tirunelveli District is benefitted. Ambasamudram taluk is benefitted by this reservoir.
The construction of the dam was commenced during 1964 and completed during 1974. The reservoir was inaugurated by the then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru.M.Karunanidhi and release of water was during 1974.
